VOLUME 9 NUMBER 3DECEMBER 1994

Holiday Greetings

Toni and I want to wish each and everyone of you the very best over the Holiday period and for the New Year to come. May your lives be as full as ours, your joys as plentiful, and your problems as small.

Personal Time Off

If you tried contacting me between about 15 November and 9 December, try again now that we are back from our trip. I HAD to be in Alabama for our family reunion and birthday celebration for my Grandmother on 4 December - she was 100 years old. Also planned was a one day security seminar in Biloxi, MS but problems with reservations arose a few days before the planned date and we had to cancel out. Never fear, we'll be having a two day session in Houston in May.

A long dispute means both parties are wrong.

Houston Seminar

The next two day TSCM/Protection of Proprietary Information seminar will be held in Houston, TX and is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, 15-16 May, 1995. This may be the only notice of the upcoming seminar you'll receive, so if you think you'll be interested in attending, drop a line or give us a call and we'll place your name on a tickler list for contact again in late March. I can also send you an information/enrollment package for use in the event you decide to attend.

One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.
- Elbert Hubbard

More About Seminars

To get a feel for out of town sessions of the Seminar, drop me a line and let me know if you would be interested in attending a one day or two day version of the seminar if it were held in a city near you.

Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform.

Hot Micx Mailing List

Many of you will notice that your name is printed in Bold Letters on the mailing label. Those are the ones who have contacted me in the past and indicated they definitely did not want to be dropped from the Hot Micx mailing list. If you wish that assurance, drop me a line indicating such a desire. On the other hand, I am also starting a list identifying the few who have indicated a desire not to continue receiving the newsletter. If you are in that group, also let me know.

I am the inferior of any man whose rights I trample under foot. Men are not superior by reason of the accidents of race or color. They are superior who have the best heart‹the best brain. The superior man Š stands erect by bending above the fallen. He rises by lifting others.
- Robert Green Ingersoll

Corporate No-No

Security directors, please brief your corporate executive to the legalities of utilizing recording devices or monitoring devices in their private offices, especially if they intend to activate the devices when they are not present and no one is aware that such devices are being used. It is a definite legal No-No.

There have been recent incidences of voice recorders and audio transmitters being found in corporate offices.

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is part of the main ... Any man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
- John Donne

INSIDE INFORMATION

I recently received an extremely informative mailing from one of my favorite competitors, Kevin Murray, Clinton, NJ. It consisted of a four pager filled with interesting tidbits of information related to items which are, or can be used as audio or video eavesdropping or monitoring devices. I'm sure Kevin would provide you with a copy if you contacted him at PO Box 5004, Clinton, NJ 08809. He still has a few copies left, but if he runs out, contact me and I'll run off a copy for you. It's well worth the effort of asking for.

One item he discussed was the tapeless tape recorder, a credit card size recorder which uses memory chips to record. At present, they can handle two minutes or less of speech, but remember when personal computers had a storage capability of 128K. With added memory and capabilities, such as a timer or voice activation, think of the potential.

You may turn into an archangel, a fool, or a criminal--no one will see it. But when a button is missing--everyone sees that.
- Erich M. Remarque

Well folks, in as much as this was the holiday season, little happened and I went into a non think mode. For that reason, this issue is going to be lean. For the next issue, if nothing else, Išll research some of the items in Kevin's flyer and expand on those. In the meantime, if you think you have a problem with information loss, it is probably a fact.

When angry count four; when very angry, swear.
