VOLUME 7 NUMBER 2JULY 1992

THE HOT MICX is a play on pronunciation/spelling. It is pronounced mikes (as in microphones) and was selected because it symbolizes the threat to privacy.
Everything is changing. People are taking their comedians seriously and the politicians as a joke.
Will Rogers.

This edition of THE HOT MICX is late for a couple of reasons.
One was caused by updating my mailing list, a never ending job. Hopefully, I haven't delete anyone who requested they be included.
The second was because of a) the extensive travel required to support your security requirements, b) TSCI's two day seminar in Las Vegas and c) the requests from law firms, professional groups and law enforcement agencies for the TSCM/Information Protection presentation provided by TSCI.

The TSCM/Information Protection presentations, which range from 45 minutes to 2 hours in length, takes a couple of days to properly prepare to insure that material and handouts are appropriate for the assembled group and the various bugs and tapping devices and countermeasures equipment selected for demonstration are operational. If you need a speaker, I work for food.
It is easy to take liberty for granted when you have never had it taken from you.
Dick Cheney
The HISTORY AND BACKGROUND information sheet included with THE HOT MICX is extracted from the information package provided by TSCI. If you wish to receive a complete package, call or write. There is no obligation; the only call you'll receive will be to insure that you received the requested information.

If you are located in or near Philadelphia, you may be contacted in the near future by a representative of TSCI. She'll be visiting to answer some of your non technical questions and to introduce you to the services provided by TSCI.

Dallas-Ft Worth: You're next on my list of major cities to visit. I will be continuing my annual routine of spending up to a week in at least one major city a year just for the opportunity of visiting with you and answering any questions you may have about the services of TSCI . Past visits have included New York, Las Vegas and New Orleans, with short visits to Houston and Los Angeles.

In spite of my best intentions, I will not unable to visit everyone on my mailing list, so please give a call if you would definitely like to be visited and I'll contact you at least a week before I come over. Right now, it looks like the middle of September to the middle of October.

Speaking of New York, I think I have visited everyone in the New England area who requested a visit, with the exception of the two individuals on Long Island and upper state New York. If I missed you, drop me a line and I'll try harder next time I'm in town.
REELECT NO ONE. Seen on numerous bumper stickers .
Regarding the next TSCM Seminar, it is scheduled for November 5-6, Las Vegas, NV and will be held at either The Academy as in October of last year or at The Sahara Casino/Hotel as was the case in March. Final location and directions will be provided not later than 15 October, 1992 (See the attached information sheet).

Speaking of the Sahara, I would like to again extend my thanks to Art Steele, Vice President Security, and the Sahara Hotel for their support, especially during the last session. Due to the reduced size of the group (caused by last minute cancellations and emergencies), Art arranged for a suite rather than a meeting room. Those attending felt it lent a lot more to the sessions due to the informal setting. The next time you're in Las Vegas, drop in and say Hi to Art.

The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do.

Dateline Dallas: The Arizona Republic March 2, 1992---According to a partner in a prestigious consulting firm, corporate America now has to contend with computer Sabotage along with fraud, embezzlement and theft of secrets when dealing with employees loosing their jobs. Not only is there the possibility of theft of information from the computer, the corporation also has to watch for destruction of the Volume Table of Contents, a directory that a computer compiles to keep track of programs and data, as well as protecting against a time bomb.

Continuing, it was pointed out that new federal sentencing guidelines makes it clear that senior executives are responsible for making sure there is adequate computer security within their companies.
Talk is cheap--except when Congress does it.

Dateline La La Land (AKA Washington, DC) The Arizona Republic March 7, 1992---Get your checkbooks ready; if the FBI gets its way, we'll be paying for the privilege of of being able to have our phones tapped. The change to digital technology and fiber optics makes it possible for thousands of conversations to be carried by fibers not much larger than a human hair. That is supposed to make it impossible to conduct court ordered wiretaps. I suppose it could make it more difficult, but impossible---naa. A court ordered wiretap could be done at or near the premises at which the telephone is located or at the telephone company where the switching is being done; places where hard wiring is available or control of the circuits is possible by the telco officials. If a wiretap has to be placed at inconvenient points, let the government pay to develop the technology, not you and I.
