Well, I guess I'm still on some individuals list as I received this notice from the AMUG net administrator

Subject: Mailing Lists
Please pay more attention to your mailing list. There are people complaning to me that you won't remove them when they ask.
Example:
mshannon@sfo.com says:
"I have tried numerous times to get this guy to take me off his mailing
list, but the stuff keeps coming. Sometimes several very long messages at
once."
It is against AMUG's acceptable Use policy to have unsolicited email
transmitted from an AMUG member. Please take care of this.
-D
My response was:
Dan,
I don't have anyone on my list with the e-mail address of mshannon@sfo.com.
I do have a mshannon@lysias.com. If this is one and the same person, I'll be glad to remove the name, but the party in question has not responded as to whether this was the case or not. (I don't know if you have e-mail lists or not, but do you drop everyone who has the same info before the @ sign or the same info after the @ sign when an unidentified person asks to be removed?)
FYI, this was the last correspondence I received from the individual

For the umpteenth time WILL YOU PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR DAMNED MAILING
LIST? I am getting tired of asking so just fucking do it NOW.
Also, I'm providing my mailing list for your review. PLEASE find this individuals e-mail address for me so I can get rid of it. You don't know how aggrevating this can be. Maybe I'm looking at something that isn't there. I've looked physically and used the find function over and over and still come up with just the one address I refuse to remove until I get confirmation it is one and the same. HELP! HELP!
Please get back to me as soon as possible with a solution (and probably an apology from mshannon@sfo.com for not providing correct information).
Tim Johnson
Dan, I forgot to mention, the only way to get on my mailing list is to request to be added. In the past, I have had three or four addresses added at the request of the director of corporate security, but I've stopped that procedure. I now ask them to have the person within their organization request they be added.
For further information, see the triangle on my web site main page
http://www.amug.org/~dbugman/
I'll be calling you sometime today to determine the status this situation.
Tim Johnson
While on this subject, I'd like to thank the individual who had been entered by his boss and asked that he be removed. The thanks is because he had been entered using a company e-mail address and was request to be removed using his personal e-mail address. Really, it's that simple for you folks out there to make a mistake.
Fopr you folks, is there something I can do to locate this individuals e-mail address and get it off my list. I don't want it on the list any more then the individual receiving the unsolicited mail, but at this point I don't know what to do.
Also, would mshannon@lysias.com please contact me and let me know that you aren't the one in question (or that you are, but just wanted to cause problems by not responding with a corrected e-mail address).

Subject: RE: cellular question
Larry......Hi I read your question in Tim Johnson's BB #20 and thought I'd sent you a response directly.
"I am working a case that has an aspect that I have never come a cross. I
have a client that is being stalked by an unknown subject. As a retired
law enforcement officer I have come across a varied spectrum of
situations but this one has an element out of my expertise. As part of
this situation here is what has developed. The client will be speaking
on her cellular phone to someone when all of a sudden she will be cut off
from whom she was talking to and the stalker will be on the line. My
question is three fold.
- How is this being done? A Motorola bag phone can be used as an intercept device and there was a product on the market called "The CellMate" that would track and record conversation even through cell hopes.
- Is there a way to use this back against him? The short answer is probably yes--but I'll have to give it some more thought.
- What kind of technical expertise does this individual have, is this something you could just pick up out of a book or what?
Not a great deal!!! Especially if this individual has any contact with the Hacker/Phreaker Community. Check Nuts & Volts for articles and products.
I have an article from Nuts & Volts that talks about the Motorola Bag Phone and the things that can be done. If you would like a copy--send me an address to mail it to you.
Cheers,
Lou

Tim, this might help with the question presented in Item #9 of Bulletin #20

My experience with the night vision equipment. American stuff is much better
than Russian (but more expensive). Gen III is better than Gen II, Gen II
better than Gen I. Personally, I think the best stuff is made by Litton.
Twin tube (binocular - two tube) goggles are better than single tube. Only
the Gen # matters if the intensifier is connected to a camera.
Actual numerical comparison (we have the data) is classified....

Mr. Geron asked:
I require to be in contact with someone capable of constructing
TEMPEST monitoring equipment, and cellular monitoring equipment.
Beware here, as I have yet to see a legitimate Tempest monitoring
setup offered for sale but have seen three phony ones.
Require an independently certified demo before spending the first
shekel (?) on this technology. I say independently certified because
Frank Jones aka Spyking aka Codex probably could fake a demo that
might fool some people some of the time.
Most cellular monitoring equipment is nearly useless toys, especially
the ones sold by the spy shops including the place in Canada. The
conditions under which they can operate are so limited that their
utility is practically nil. And the places who claim to offer these
tend not to be the most reputable places to work with.
Does your country use analog (AMPS) cellular, or GSM? If GSM you're
out of luck completely.
If AMPS, there are genuine monitoring systems available, typically
starting at USD $30,000 and going up from there. These are the real
things, not advertised, long history of good government service. If
you have a genuine requirement and can afford these prices, contact
me privately and I will work with you. It is unlikely they could be
purchased by other than a government agency.
If you have a requirement to monitor pagers, our Beeper Buster system
does that perfectly and we would be pleased to work with you. Info on
our website. http://www.swssec.com

Subject: Night vision equipment
Do you know of anyone who has made any documented comparisons of
night vision equipment?? Please add this inquiry to your bulletin board.
Harry, there are several articles discussing this on the articles
page of our website http://www.swssec.com. Read them and you'll be in
a good position to evaluate different systems. Information is several
years old but still valid.
Anymore the market has been so polluted by foreign products and
formerly decent American manufacturers who are having trouble
competing, that the safest thing is to stick with ITT and Litton. I
say formerly decent manufacturers because several of them have
learned to break the factory seals on lower cost tubes, turn up the
gain to get artificial performance, and sell them as higher spec
tubes. The noise figure on these is much higher, tube life much less
and XBI nearly washed out.
Also on our links page is a link to clandestine.com who is an honest
and reputable source for ITT night vision, and has done right by
several people we're referred to him.
Bill Grube from Night Vision Equipment Company also is an honest man.
I believe their website is nvec.com.
In reply to the original message, Tim wrote:
Harry,
The only thing I can input on this subject is to be wary of the former Soviet flooding the market. I've heard that the High Voltage section is radiating energy sufficient to cause possible damage to the user.
This is correct. There are no OSHA or BRH standards in the Soviet
Union. Many of the Soviet pieces radiate enough garbage from the
phosphors to cause eye damage even for the short periods you might
use the things. The import on many of these was frozen some time
back, but there were so many pieces brought in already that there's
still thousands out there.
I wrote a piece on this some time back with details and technical
info and will be glad to post extracts of it if there is serious
interest.
On top of the health aspects, the Russian stuff is very poorly
designed and manufactured. It bears so little resemblance to real
night vision that it should not even share the name. Performance is
nil, you can do better with passive quality optics. Not worth fooling
with at any price. Life is measured in dozens of hours compared to
several thousand of hours for recent American manufactured tubes.

Hmmm??
DEEP QUESTIONS OF LIFE
- After eating, do amphibians have to wait one hour before getting out of the water?
- How can there be self-help groups?
- If white wine goes with fish, do white grapes go with sushi?
- If a mute swears, does his mother make him wash his hands with soap?
- If someone has a mid-life crisis while playing hide and seek, does he automatically lose because he can't find himself?
- If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?
- Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
- Is there another word for synonym?
- Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice"?
- Just before someone gets nervous, do they experience cocoons in their stomach?
- When sign makers go on strike, is anything written on their picket signs?
- When you open a new bag of cotton balls, is the top one meant to be thrown away?
- When your pet bird sees you reading the newspaper, does he wonder why you're just sitting there, staring at carpeting?
- Where do forest rangers go to "get away from it all"?
- Why isn't there a mouse-flavored cat food?
- Why do they report power outages on TV?
That's the gist of it for today folks. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to pass them on.
